When I was working on a particular scene in LotD, I recorded 3 hours of screen captures, filling it up along the way with unscripted narration. Throughout the entire process I’m describing reasons or excuses for what I’m doing, pretty much thinking aloud the whole time. Part 1 starts at the very beginning of the rough animation process and by Part 33, we’re watching the full colour character and lighting process.
Some day I’ll do a fully narrated background capture but until then, hope you get something out of this. Here’s Part 1 (below). Click HERE if you want to watch the playlist (parts 1-20) on YouTube. I’ll be uploading the remaining videos over the next few days.
Work on The Last of the Dashkin 2 (temporary title) has begun. The story has been in place for a while but it’s now a matter of getting it into screenplay format before moving on to panels and a working visual format.
LotD was a prologue. The plan for part 2 therefore is that it’ll be an on-board view as the story really begins to blossom. It’s not the story that will be told in the feature film, so some of the bigger mysteries will remain.
For the conclusion of the story, I’ve decided against putting myself through hell. In other words, I’m using Animate Pro. I have a plan and a little secret to help me get the movie onto NG at a reasonable filesize. In the meantime, I’ll keep you posted with screenshots and updates!
It’s live! The new Brackenwood movie is called ‘The Last of the Dashkin’ and it’s a story told in the oral tradition which as you may know is my favourite type of story. It’s around 4 min 30 sec and the download is about 11mb.
Also, inspired by the radioplays of long ago, I’ll be releasing the full unedited narration along with sound effects and music as an audioplay, so you can listen to the story on your computer or iPod.

Thanks for all your support through the making of this project. It always motivates me knowing you’re all out there anticipating the next release and even more so when you enjoy the end product.
But it’s not the end of the road here as I plan on beginning storyboards on the sequel in Jan – Feb. As promised, there will be wallpapers up for download by the time I next update the blog.
The Last of the Dashkin will be released on Newgrounds within the next 24 hrs.
OK so the original deadline has passed for the untitled Brackenwood movie, so here’s a quick update to let you know where I’m at. I’ve revised the schedule and here’s how it currently stands:
If all continues to go well – and as you can see by the graph it’s been going quite well – I will finish animation around the 22nd Nov and pass the movie over to the music guy. While he’s doing his bit, I’ll be finishing some backgrounds and effects animation so that by the time he’s finished, it’ll be pretty much ready to release.
It’s been taking a little longer than I initially thought, mostly because on top of Brackenwood I’m still committed to 2 other freelance jobs at the moment. Per day, I’m doing around 5 hours on each, so the days are long. I’m still finding an hour or two at night for some TF2 though
Here’s a quick image from the set of today’s shoot. There’s no background here and the little + is from the vCam.
With a bit of crunchy linework it’s not really suitable for close-up viewing, but click on it to get the high-res version. It’s 1680 x 1344. Not exactly wallpaper dimensions but I’m sure it’ll work OK as wallpaper somehow.
Progress
In the graph below, you’ll notice the green’s scattered a bit. That’s because I’ve been tackling a few of the more challenging or tedious scenes first. This has put me behind schedule a bit, but as I mentioned yesterday, hopefully falling behind on the harder stuff at the beginning will mean I speed up as things get easier towards the end. Fingers crossed.

New blog theme
With this particular theme, you can drag sidebar elements and arrange them to your liking, so go ahead and customise it and let me know what you think.
I’ll be tweaking the theme over the coming weeks, months & probably years, while I experiment with the settings. I like how clean this one is, but I would prefer less flat grey all over the place. Feel free to suggest stuff, but ultimately I’ll just be messing about until I find something I like.
Alright then. Back to work. Next graph coming in a couple days!
